Commercial - Exterior Before & After

I have worked with a lot of Strata Committees in my colour consulting career. Usually 2 or 3 members of the Committee will handle hiring the designer for choosing colour or selecting finishes to upgrade the building. I usually present 2 – 3 options (at the most) for the committee to choose from.

This building also had new vinyl windows installed which looks great. Although the biggest piece that makes this facade work is that I repeated the brick colour in the accent which really contributes to the cohesive look of the building. Here’s the before [below]:

Working with Strata committee’s can be challenging because there are a lot of different opinions. Owners that have lived in the building a long time generally don’t want to see dramatic change; while the new, younger owners are usually the ones voting for an updated fresh look.

Meeting with the Strata to present the new colours works well because part of getting the colours approved involves providing the answer to the question why? When it comes to exterior colour, people need to understand the process of how a colour consultant determines the final 2 to 3 choices out of 2,000 colours. That is well worth the fee for the peace of mind because if it’s wrong, there is no hiding.

    The building looks WAY better with the colours you selected :-) The dark greeny gray works great with the brick.

    On a completely different note -- sorry you didn't win our giveaway :-( You were definitely our most enthusiastic participant, and we really appreciate you helping us spread the word :-)

    What an improvement! (I am not a big fan of 'screaming white vinyl windows'.)

    Cannot wait until we complete our interior upgrades, so I can seek your expertise for an Exterior Colour Consultation on our home.

    Love the after, nice warm inviting.
    I love the comment...if it's wrong, there is no hiding, so true...there is a building here that painted all the long extented wave across the facad balconies fire engine red on a white brick building - it is a heart stopper and we all know its not good to stop someones heart...my hubby always comments when we drive by ..what were they thinking ..
    Someone didn't have a designer pick the colour!

    Great transformation... I don't mind the windows..they look clean and crisp and modern...i don't feel it diminishes the result at all... BRAVO!

    I have been looking for a new paint color for my front door...that is hard enough!!!

    Maria,

    It can even be difficult to convince a client that you're correct. Back up plan with a calm explanation usually works. Remember that most men are color blind so it can often be the determining factor as to why a color selected is "off". Great job, wonderful example too.

    Wow it looks much improved! The before looks like a tired, 60's building that I would never consider living in. But the after...I'd consider!
